Way to Recognize a Good LOTRO Level Guide

If you would like to take part to all the Middle Earth adventures, LOTRO can be found very cheap at your local games stores, and then all I recommend you to do is find a good LOTRO level guide. As usual, most commercial guides are a cut above the free guides, but there's a lot of value to be had in free leveling guides on the net. But how to make the difference between a good guide and junk? Not too hard.

A good LOTRO level guide should have, first of all, a solid sample that you can check for yourself and decide whether it suits your needs or not. It should look like a solid walkthrough for the quests in the game, locations and NPCs you need to see and it should also have a good system of maps. Another feature of a good LOTRO level guide should be a system of links to various LOTRO helpful sites and forums which should cover the rest of information needed in order to improve your Middle Earth game experience. Last but not least, a good LOTRO level guide should have a "100% money back guaranteed" if you don't like the product. This feature usually expresses the author's confidence about the effectiveness of the guide and certainly gives you the safety of getting your money back in case the guide turns out to be a rip off.

Now that you know how to spot a good LOTRO level guide, feel free to start your journey throughout Middle Earth and take part to one of the most pleasant online experiences that exist.

Playing as a Fellowship in LOTRO

Curious as to how playing in a group or fellowship in Lord of the Rings Online provides a better gaming experience? Wonder if it's really different than other MMORPGs? Here is all you need to know about playing well with others.

The Basics

As a Hunter playing in a group or fellowship setting, you are pretty much as DPS machine. Sometimes, players will get frustrated with being “demoted” from a jack-of-all-trades to simply the DPS machine, but it is nothing personal and it is something that you should expect as a hunter. Your main skills are ranged DPS, not tanking or healing, so you being the ranged person is only natural. While many groups do not want to wait for hunters to set traps, but they are still useful and a lot of groups do not want to wait for our focus to build up before we can start shooting. But, they find that the hunter's ability to create campfires for healing and morale are great to have, plus the ability to teleport all over the map is something that most groups can not live without.

Keep in mind though that the primary goal of a hunter in any group or fellowship is as the hammer of the group. We can see into the mobs, swap out targets with ease, and drop the adds before the tanks have a problem with them. Hunters pretty much pull from the healer in the group so they can continue to heal the group or party and then continue to play the artillery. While playing solo, Hunters have the ability to rock and roll alone. Yet, in a group setting, we can suddenly gain the ability to swing the battle in our group's favor and be the hero. In a group setting, hunters can pull from a distance, slowing up the mob, so that it will mindlessly follow us into a group of our tanks and other guardians.

An Asset To Any Group

Every class will have something special to offer those in their group, or fellowship. From healers to hunters, there are special traits that every group will benefit from. For example, some of the main traits, spells, and abilities that groups and fellowships cannot live without from a Hunter are: “Find the Path” (where we can find the way to go anywhere), “Bright Campfire” (the ability to create a campfire that restores the maximum morale and other abilities), and “Cry of the Predator” (which allows a great buff for the whole group). A hunter's “Rain of Arrows” is always great for a group setting, but you do need to be careful that you do not pull something that you didn't want to.

So you want to make sure that you try to get in a group that doesn't already have someone of your class in it. Most people will try to get a diverse group going, so that they gain the maximum from their group and don't stack buffs that won't help. If you are the one forming the group, then you want to make sure that you choose players that will help the group and try not to stack classes so you gain the most from every player's traits and buffs.

LOTRO Guide : Level 35 - 40

This was actually one of the toughest grinds for me, but with the release of Evendim it has become amazingly easier! You can finish up your quests at Tinnundur in Evendim and make your way north to Ost Forod for a few more quests. Complete your quests in Esteldim (some lead you into the Ram Duath in south Angmar. The Trollshaws will have some quests in Thorenhad and Rivendell for you as well. You can also begin on Book 4.

At around 38 you can also begin to get a group for the next major instance, Fornost, located north of Amon Raith in Northdowns. This is a tough instance, but yet again the loot and experience make it worthwhile. I believe that there are 7 quests inside this instance.

If you need to grind some experience you can always spend some time just outside of Rivendell grinding on the easier mobs for decent, albeit not great, experience.

LOTRO Guide : Level 31 - 35

Now you have the chance to travel to Esteldim located North of the Shire and West of Northdowns. You can begin quests in Oatbarton (23.4S, 67.4W). These quests will lead you up to Tinnundur (12.2S, 67.4W). You will also still be able to work through quests in Esteldim (which sends you primarily to Dol Dinen in Fellowship quests). You can also begin running Garth Argwen back in the Lonelands if you like.

During this time I would finish Book 3 as well. Don't forget to begin saving you money as well because at 35 you will be able to get your very own mount.

At 34 you can also begin to make your way into the Trollshaws. Head to Ost Guruth in Lonelands and follow the road East across The Last Bridge. You can stop by a camp at 34S, 20.2W for a few easy quests or make your way to Thorenhad at 31.7S, 15W for a few quests. Eventually continue along the road and make your way to Rivendell (the most beautiful city in the game)! This trek to Rivendell can be tough, but it is possible. You can grind a bit on the easier mobs near the Last Bridge if you are just looking for experience.

Leveling from 21-30

Level 21 - 25:

Now to begin Book 2. Click here for a Book 2 Walkthrough. You should also begin trying to get into a Greater Barrows run. There are 5 quests here to complete. Each of these will net you some good gear as well as great experience.

You can also make your way to Ost Guruth in the Lonelands to continue through your Lonelands quests. Ost Guruth is located at 31.3S, 29.6W. If you work through some of the Fellowship quests during these levels you should easily hit 25 without having to travel to Trestlebridge. But if you are running a bit low you can begin a few quests at Trestlebridge in the Northdowns (head north out of Bree following the road).

Level 25 - 30:

At this point the Northdowns will be your primary home for awhile. You can complete quests in Trestlebridge, Amon Raith (12.6S, 52.8W), Meluinin (13.7S, 44.9W), Othrikar (6.9S, 44.9W) and Esteldin (9.7S, 42.1W). The Northdowns is full of quests and you shouldn't have a tough time completing most of them.

You should also complete Book 2 during your last few levels back in the Lonelands. When you complete this book a series of quests in the region of Agamaur will open up (29.7S, 27.3W). These quests lead to the instance of Garth Argawen, the second major instance for the game. There are a total of 9 quests to complete inside of this instance. I would begin these quests around level 32. It's tough inside of there, but there is great loot and experience to be made their.

You can begin Book 3 in the Northdowns during this time as well.

Lotro Online: Leveling Guides

Upon reaching Barliman inside of the Prancing Pony (North-East corner of Bree), he informs you that he is unhappy with his recent guest. This guest is Strider. Strider is located inside of the Prancing Pony down a series of hallways off of the main room. Speak with Strider to complete this quest.

Reward: 42c

Chapter 1: Unraveling The Thread

Strider asks you to gather allies, and then return to him. You will be transported to an instanced version of Ost Baranor where he will lead you against Amdir and the Blackwolds. Ost Baranor is where you complete the Fixing Falco’s Folly series of quests.

When you enter the instance Strider will break off from you and you will follow Torthann. You will fight many Blackwolds as Torthann leads you to your final encounter. When you reach the circle style alter, before the gate, you will fight your first semi-difficult mob. Then Torthann will stop and allow you to rest. He will open the gate and you will continue up the stairs to fight 2 mobs. Your first mob will be a signature mob, and then Amdir will come to life and fight you as well. Be sure to have enough power for both fights.

Upon completion of this instance you will need to return to Strider in the Prancing Pony.

I completed this quest around level 17 with 1 other person. You may want 3-4 level 15’s to easily defeat Amdir. Upon completion return to

Reward: 1s 5c and one of the following: Hengaim (Light gloves), Menedgaim (Medium gloves), Cloak of Cardolan

Strider asks you to go to Combe and speak with Constable Underhill. Combe is located to the East of Bree. Head out of Bree through the Northeast gate and then head North along the road to Combe. Constable Underhill is located in the middle of town standing on the doorsteps of the Town Hall area. Upon speaking with the Constable you will have completed Chapter 2.

Reward: Nothing

Chapter 3: Blackwolds Broken

Speak with Constable Underhill again to be transported to an instanced version of the Blackwolds’ old hideout. You will fight some Neekerbreaker mobs while protecting the Constable as he travels into the hideout. Eventually you will reach the end of the maze and see dwarfs beating a Blackwold member. The dwarfs will attack you while one flees. The Constable will leave you to fight while he tracks the lead Dwarf. These are not difficult mobs. Speak with the Blackwold member, and then continue down the path to the Constable. You have completed Chapter 3 and will be transported out when you speak with him again.

Speak with the Constable when back in Combe to receive your reward. This can be completed by 1-2 level 17’s (I had 2 total), or 3 - 4 level 15’s without a problem.

Reward: 1s 5c and one of the following: Constable’s Jacket (Medium Armor) and Constable’s Hammer (One-handed hammer)

Chapter 4: Dark Designs

After the dwarf’s attack you are instructed to speak with the Constable again. Speak with him and he will send you back to Bree to talk with Strider. Nothing tough, just go back.

Playing a Hunter in LOTRO - Levels 1-20

The Basics

During your time in these lower levels, you will also have access to some survival skills, such as cooking. The good thing about being a hunter is that you can build a campfire without any materials. Campfires can be used to help buff up morale and regenerate power. They also allow cooks to make food for the group that can help with agility, might, and vitality.

After you hit level 10, you will be spending most of your time in Bree. This is where the majority of the quests are for level 10-20, as well as some of the surrounding areas, such as Annunlos. These areas will help you gain the experience you need, as well as skills and abilities that will help you later in the game.

From Level 10 On Up

As you hit level 10 and work your way to level 20, you will gain more skills and better abilities. Your archery skills will continue to level up and give you better weapons and better ranges. At level 20, you will gain another skill that will help in your archery, called Intent Concentration. This will allow you to reach full focus in emergency situations. It is for this emergency reason that the ability has a long cool-down period of 3 minutes. When it comes to traps, you will learn the Basic Bear Trap when you hit level 15. This will slightly damage a target while it holds it in place and allow you to gain a bit more time before it hits you in close range combat. If you choose to become a Weaponsmith at this time, you can learn to craft other traps that will help hold or do more damage. If you decide not to be a Weaponsmith, then you can purchase other traps from the Auction House.

Speaking of close combat, Hunters are not entirely useless here. At level 10, you will gain the ability to defend yourself in a surprise attack as well as finish what you have started with your ranged attack. You will also gain the ability to wear Medium Armour that will give you added protection against damage.

In the next section of this series, we'll talk about the different stances that Hunters get in game that will help both you and your friends nearby.

Playing a Hunter in LOTRO

Want to know all there is to know about playing a hunter class in Lord of the Rings Online? This series will give you the low down on playing one.

Special Skills and Abilities for the Hunter Class in LOTRO

Another great aspect of playing a hunter in LOTR is that you have the ability to track enemies. For those who are used to playing other hunters with tracking abilities on other MMO games, this will be a nice change. Instead of lighting up your map with a specific type of mob, (such as animals, humanoids, and so on), the LOTR hunter's tracking allows you to examine the ground for different tracks and choose one to follow. Then, this track is shown on your map. You only gain your tracking skill at level 12, when you get Passage of Nature that will allow you to track beasts.

Hunters Are Special Too
Hunters are also a great class to play as you gain several different travel buffs to help you. For example, hunters have a buff that allows their group to run faster, which is great in these eariler levels before you can ride horses. This buff is called Find the Path and increases your group's running speed by 15%. You will gain this skill at level 14.

There are a couple of extra skills that hunters can get after level 10 that can be a great asset to themselves and their friends. One of these is Cry of the Predator, which you gain at level 12. This makes beasts run in fear from you or your group when used. Another helpful skill is Purge Poison, which will pull a poison from a friend, and you gain this skill at level 16.

Special Skills
For those who choose to play a Hunter toon, you will find that the special skills and abilities will only enhance your game play. Hunters are almost invaluable when it comes to group play due to some of their special buffs (such as those listed above) that roll out to their group to help them as well. When you roll an hunter and start playing, you won't have access to many of these. But, the further that you level up in the game, the better you will become at offering special items to your friends and other group members who need them.

In the next part of this series, we'll go through level 20 and above as this is the time when your Hunter will really come into it's own and you will gain some major skills and abilities that will only make you even more valuable to your group.

How to Earn Traits in LOTRO

Traits are another great thing that you will earn as you go in Lord of the Rings Online. For those who are just getting into the game, or who don't fully understand what they are, here is the basics that you should know.

Traits are another item that you can earn through deeds, quests, and game play in LOTR. Each toon will have the ability to equip traits that they earn and these traits can help to give you a ton of different abilities or bonuses. As long as you have enough trait slots, you can equip as many traits as you want. With each level, your trait slots will increase in areas like virtue, class, and racial. So, the more traits that you earn can of fer you a great way to customize your toon to your specific gaming style. Here is a small breakdown of what each type of trait does and how you gain them:

1.Virtue traits are really common among each of the races and classes. These can be earned by completing goals, quests, and other activities in any specific area. These usually improve your statistics, morale, power, or resistances. You will find that you will automatically gain these all the time.
2.Class traits are only given to specific classes of players, like hunters. These are usually earned by using your specific class skills or powers enough, meeting certain conditions enough, or performing special quests. For each different class, you will gain thes class traits as you level through the game.
3.Racial traits are only given to specific races, and usually offer special abilities that no other race has. So, you will earn these by playing different races you will see the different racial traits that you can gain.
4.Legendary traits are those are are really rare and require higher levels to obtain. These are obtained by collecting class-specific books and pages that drop from mobs or by doing special level 45+ class quests. For those who strive to be the best when it comes to the current MMORPG game that they are playing, then these are the traits that you will want to go for when you hit the higher levels.

So, you can earn a ton of different traits, deeds, and abilities that will further customize your toon and help to enhance your toon just how you want it to be - it simply depends on how hard you want to work at these traits and the amount of time that you want to spend putting into your toon to make them as different as possible.

How do I sell lotro items to an NPC vendor?

NPC vendors will buy practically anything of value in your inventory, including items that are bound to you (items that cannot be traded to other players).

To interact with such an NPC, simply double-click (or right-click) on him/her. This will bring up a Shop Panel. Click on the Sell tab to list all the items in your inventory that can be sold. The selling price of each item is listed next to it.

The Shopping Panel

To sell an item, simply double-click (or right-click) on its picture. The money will go to your gold-purse automatically.

The padlock next to the name of each item allows you to lock an item so you won?t accidentally sell it. Only unlocked items can be sold.

What fees do I have to pay to sell through the Auction House?

Every time you post an auction, you have to pay a Posting Fee up front. The amount depends on the duration you picked (see the info below). The percentage is applied to either the Initial Price or the Buyout Price, if you entered one. In addition to this, the Auction House also takes a 5% Auctioning Fee(lotro gold) for every sale completed.

Duration/PostingFee

08 Hours/6% of Item Worth

48 Hours/40% of Item Worth

How do I buy items from the Auction House?

Double-click or right-click on an Auctioneer to bring up the Auction Panel, or click on the Auctions tab if you already have the panel up.

You can highlight the category you want to search on. You could also specify a word or phrase that appears in the item name, and the level range to narrow down your search. Click on the Search button to bring up the items that meet your criteria. The list will show you the current bid on the item and a buyout price, if any. To bid on an item, highlight it, enter your bid, and then click Bid. To buyout an item, highlight it then click on Buyout.

What happens when I lose a bid?

If someone beats your bid, you will get mail from the Auctioneer informing you that you have been outbid on an auction. The money you bid on it will be returned to you in that letter.

At this point, if you go back to the Auctioneer and click on the Bids tab, you will see the lost bid still on the list. If you want to keep bidding on the item, just click on Bid. Otherwise, click on Concede to remove the item from the list.

Keep track of your bids.

How do I get an lotro item I won at the Auction House?

LOTRO Money Guide

Welcome to our money (currency) overview for Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar. The currency system within LOTRO is similiar to many other MMORPG games but has some differences. The currency is broken up into three seperate types, Gold, Silver, and Copper.

For example, the character above has zero gold, 40 silver, and 49 copper. There is also a currency called “destiny points” that we’ll discuss later and deals with monster play. As far as the denominations go, 100 copper is equal to 1 silver, but 1000 silver is required for 1 gold. Kind of odd we think, but that’s the way it is none the less.

Getting Money

There are a wide variety of ways to aquire lotro golds in the game, the most obvious is to complete quests and sell off what you have looted from various creatures. To sell your items to a vendor (npc - non playing character) you simply talk to them and go to “sell” as seen below.

Various vendors have items for sale but will also buy yours from you. As you can see in the diagram above, the character can sell a wide variety of items and get more money from them. They can in turn spend that money on items from a vendor or auction house.

Other ways to build wealth include crafting various items and selling them to vendors or on the auction house to other players.

Why Lord of The Rings is better then WoW

Basically because :

1. It's new and fresh - not like grampy World of Warcraft. Of course take it easy :P ive had been playing WoW very long but i know very well Lotr and i think - LOTR is better and more interesting then WoW.

2. Have it's own charisma - ohh yes you can fall in love very fast.

3. I think world is better - Tolkien's Middle-earth is far more interesting then Azeroth. Yeah i know there is lots of Warcraft's books and other stuff- but hey read Lord of the Rings Trylogy! It's a classic!

4. Players in Lotr are nicer and when you are going somewhere, everyone is very helpful - WoW its different

5. You can purchase Lotr for lifetime membership in WoW you can't!

6. Traits, skills - they are far more efficient then in Warcraft.

7. I think its - for now - alternative for anyone who is bored with WoW and want something else. It's best option!

LOTRO Power Leveling Tips

Here are some tips to help you get leveled up more quickly in Lord of the rings online!:

1. Do lots of quests! It is possible to level up by just grinding, but doing quests makes leveling up go by much faster. It makes things more interesting, and the quest rewards and experience gain is nothing to sneeze at.
2. Don't bother reading the quest text. If you don't care about reading all the story text, just skip through and watch your quest tracker for the important notes you require. Usually you have to kill a certain monster, talk to a certain person, etc. There isn't really much else you need to know.
3. If you aren't reading the quest text, you might miss some quests. The good thing is, when you are headed off to do quest A, just kill one of each type of monster that you see along the way. Chances are you will already have one or two quests for that type of monster and you can kill two birds with one stone.
4. Do monster play and get destiny points! What is cool is that you can do monster play and get a ton of destiny points much faster than you can with your "good" character. You can use these destiny points for temporary buffs, or more importantly, for increased experience. Of course, the experience buff makes power leveling much faster for LOTRO. There is a limit to how many times you can do this. It can only be used once every 24 hours, and it will save up to 5 charges for you at any given time. This means that you should keep an eye on it and buy the experience buff whenever you can. If you let it fill up to 5 charges, you will be wasting free experience.
5. Don't be too worried about group quests. That is, don't spend a ton of time trying to get a group together. Usually the experience is horrible killing elites with a group, so don't count on leveling up fast. Of course the group quests sometimes have chains leading to future quests or great rewards, so don't ignore them completely - maybe wait until they are light blue or green so they will be easier to get over with.
6. Take up a craft. If you want to make sure that you are never short on gold, you might want to become an explorer so you can sell wood, leather or metal that you find during your travels. Typically you will want to focus on the highest tier of items available to you, and ignore the lowest level stuff.
7. Related to 6, make sure to visit the auction hall to upgrade your gear every couple of levels or so. Leveling is going to be alot easier with a fancy new weapon and armor.
8. Make sure to pick up some rations to help reduce your downtime while leveling.

IN Lotro the Warg Stalker is a creature of shadows. Its home resides in the darkness out of the view of its prey. These creatures hide themselves and strike with great ferocity from an unseen direction. Their attacks can stun, daze, and knock down enemies making them vulnerable to more attacks.

The Warg Stalker is a capable combatant and in some instances can fill the role of a tank. While it is capable of such a task its true powers lie within the shadows of combat. When in a group of its allies the Warg Stalker is most useful striking from the darkness while his allies pound on the enemy. While capable of filling the role of a tank in some cases it is not at its best in that position. Warg Stalkers should avoid direct solo combat with solid tank classes and avoid being caught alone by multiple enemies.

The Jin’ka Forest (Kojan)

Deep in the Jin’ka Forest lies the ancient resting place of the great Lord Tsang, the warrior poet who fought with faith and steel to unite the warring states of ancient Kojan into one kingdom under Jin. Though Lord Tsang did not live to see his empire realized, his son finished the task and was credited as the first true emperor, he is commonly afforded the same respectful title. Despite Tsang’s humble teachings of Jin, the people built a great tomb in his honor outside his home city of Tanvu, and consecrated his body within.

The devastation of the cataclysm has left more mysticism than knowledge about Lord Tsang in the minds of the Kojani. What is known is that whenever their empire has faced annihilation, the spirit of Lord Tsang has risen from the grave and carried his legendary weapons into battle to defend his people. With the terror of the ulvari sweeping across Kojan, once again the cry for deliverance rings out. But this time there is no answer.

In these dark times, when Lord Tsang appears to have abandoned his people, Kojan, now more than ever, needs heroes. Do you possess courage enough to venture into Lord Tsang’s tomb? Have you the skill and cunning to best his eternal guardians? Will you have the strength of spirit to take up the cause and wield his sacred weapons of legend?
